Overview As you will recall from the module’s lesson, organizations with a global presence create a challenge for HR. Every country has different laws, work practices, and cultural values, which make creating a standard set of workplace policies and employment benefits that apply worldwide difficult. In this assignment, you will compare common work practices and benefit offerings across multiple countries and reflect on your findings. Assignment Steps Step 1 - Choose Which Countries to Compare For this assignment, you are asked to compare common employee benefits and work practices among the US and two other countries with vastly different benefits and work practices. Choose one country from List 1—known for having particularly good employee benefits—and one country from List 2—notorious for having poor employee benefits. You might want to do some preliminary research on the countries before making your decision. List 1 – Countries with Strong Employee Benefits Luxembourg Switzerland Australia Sweden Norway Denmark List 2 – Countries with Weak Employee Benefits Czech Republic Latvia South Korea Mexico Once you’ve chosen the two countries you want to compare, insert them into a table like the one shown below: Benefit/Work Practice Description United States (Country from List 1) (Country from List 2) Step 2 – Identify Work Practices and Benefits Next, you’ll want to draw on online resources to identify six different benefit or work practice components you’d like to compare across the three countries. You can also refer back to Module 6 for a list of common employee benefits options. In the first column of the table, “Benefit/Work Practice,” identify six different benefits or work practices. In the second column, “Description,” provide a brief description for each one. Tip: To get the most out of this assignment, you are encouraged not to simply choose benefits and work practices that you are already familiar with or common in the US. Conduct some research to discover a broad range of benefit options that you can compare. Step 3 – Compare Work Practices and Benefits Across Three Contries Now that you have three countries identified and six benefits/work practices described, you can start comparing benefits/work practices across the three countries. In the column for each country, note whether the benefit/work practice is common in that country and/or any measurable differences. For example, are paid holidays the same? Are work hours the same? Are all employees given a vehicle to drive? Step 4 - Summarize and Reflect on Your Findings After completing the table above, summarize and reflect on your findings in at least 2–3 paragraphs. Please refer to the following questions to guide your response: How do the benefits/work practices reflect each country’s unique culture? In which country would you prefer to work and why? Submission For this assignment, you will be submitting one coherent document with the following components: Table comparing six benefits/work practices across three different countries Reflection Reference list Submit your assignment documents as a Microsoft Word or PDF file upload.
